“To reform. Every day a little. This has to be your constant task if you really want to become a Saint.”
-St. Josemaria Escriva
When asked once if he had any secrets or tips for success, Jerry Seinfeld responded...
“Get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. Then get a big red magic marker. For each day that I do my task of writing a joke, I get to put a big red X over that day. After a few days you'll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You'll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain."
I seriously doubt that when Seinfeld started this routine as a rookie comic, he envisioned one day being the highest paid comedian of all time with a net worth of $860 million.
He just focused on doing one small thing everyday, no matter what.
Might this lesson be applicable to our spiritual lives as well?
I think so....
Josemaria seems to be echoing the same idea above in his quote.
The only way to get from where we’re at today... to Sainthood... is by small steps, done every day, with supreme focus on the task at hand.
Who knew Seinfeld was such a spiritual master?
Have a great day, and remember…
Don’t break the chain.
