Who: St. Stephen of Hungary, aka King Saint Stephen

What: He was the last Grand Prince of the Hungarians between 997 and 1001, and the first King of Hungary from 1000 or 1001. Stephen was the first ruler in his family to become a devout Christian. His rule encouraged the spread of Christianity in Hungary and the neighboring territories.

When: (975-1038) canonized by Pope Gregory VII in 1083

☕️ He established at least one archbishopric, six bishoprics and three Benedictine monasteries.

☕️ Using severe punishments for ignoring Christian customs, he established a system of tithes to support churches and pastors and to help the poor.

☕️He abolished pagan customs with a certain amount of violence, and commanded all to marry, except clergy and religious. 

☕️ He is a Patron saint of Hungary, kings, masons, stonecutters, and bricklayers.
